5 Reasons Why Building Owners
Should Switch to LED Lighting

Whether to improve the work environment or lower energy bills, building owners are actively moving towards more energy-efficient lighting solutions. This trend is in response to both the availability and affordability of technological advanced LED lighting.

LED lighting represents one of the most affordable and sensible investments building owners can make in terms of energy-efficient technologies.

The problem is that many owners are not aware of the many benefits to be gained from a lighting upgrade.

Let’s take a look at five reasons why you should seriously consider a move to LED.

1. Improved Occupant Productivity and Sense of Well Being

Multiple case studies have documented the following occupant benefits after an LED lighting retrofit:

  • Improved Cognitive Ability
  • Improved Visual Acuity
  • Increased Productivity
  • Improved Mood, Decreased Stress
  • Elimination of Flicker Induced Headaches

The employee/customer/patient experience is dramatically improved.

2. Decreased Energy and Maintenance Costs

A high-quality LED upgrade will typically generate energy savings of 55% to 60% when replacing fluorescent lighting, and as much as 70%+ when replacing High Intensity Discharge (HID) fixtures.

In order to adequately determine maintenance savings when replacing older lighting, three factors must be taken into account – material cost, labor cost, and disposal cost.

We assign a dollar amount to each that’s derived from polling multiple facility managers. You’ll know within a few dollars how much of your operating budget can be reassigned to other priorities.

3. Financial Incentives

Most utilities are paying substantial rebates to retrofit fluorescent and HID lighting. We make it a priority to stay on top of which products are approved by the lighting governing bodies, a requirement for utility incentives.

We’ll submit the application and accompanying documentation on your behalf to the utility, unencumbering and streamlining the rebate process.

4. Increased Revenues

The uniform quality of LED light will make any space more inviting and enhance the attractiveness of artwork, carpet and flooring, furnishings, and merchandise displays, through sharper and truer color rendering.

Building owners who install sustainable lighting technologies send a message to employees and customers that they are valued, and that ownership is proactively pursuing environmentally responsible strategies.

5. Longevity

A high quality Light Emitting Diode will last 20+ years. As is the case with many products, the disparity in LED quality is dramatic. A topflight LED retrofit will carry a five to ten year warranty.

The average fluorescent tube is replaced every three to five years. Significant degradation in light output is usually the driving factor, but discoloration is also a contributor.

HID lighting, typically used in high bay or building exterior applications, suffers from an even shorter operating cycle. HID light output degrades so quickly that lamp replacement can be required in as little as 18 months. And lamp replacement in these fixtures typically requires the rental of expensive lift equipment.

Make the Switch to LED Lighting

LED lighting represents a sea change in building infrastructure. More owners are becoming aware of the long list of benefits and financial incentives, and using lighting upgrades to improve every aspect of their businesses, including the bottom line.
